AstraZeneca’s Elecoglipron Oral GLP-1 Moves Into Phase III Obesity and Diabetes Development Program
AstraZeneca announced that its investigational oral small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist elecoglipron has advanced into a full Phase III clinical development program for obesity and type 2 diabetes. The decision follows Phase IIb results showing up to 11.8% average weight loss in adults with obesity or overweight, along with significant improvements in blood sugar control and cardiometabolic risk markers. The Phase III program will evaluate elecoglipron as both monotherapy and in combination regimens, with the goal of expanding treatment options for cardiometabolic and kidney-related diseases.
