A recent nationwide study highlighted in the article found that people with diabetic retinopathyn which is a diabetes-related eye condition, have a significantly higher risk of developing dementia, including Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia, over time, even after accounting for other risk factors. Researchers suggest that insulin resistance and microvascular damage reflected in the retina may mirror similar processes in the brain, making eye health a potential early indicator of cognitive decline
